3/8/2018 4 Comments What is the difference between autoclaved aerated concrete and non-autoclaved aerated concrete?Aerated concrete is one of the most economical, affordable and reliable products for the construction of walls, it combines the best properties of wood and stone. Aerated concrete or ceramic consist of cement, quartz sand, all kinds of gas agents (aluminium powders or pastes), in some cases gypsum and lime. First, necessary materials are mixed with water. Then this mixture is loaded into specially designed shapes, in which, as a result of the combination of gas agents and water, hydrogen appears, which promotes the formation of pores. The volume of the mixture increases sharply. After the solidification of this composition, the process of cutting into finished products of the necessary size and hardening them in autoclaves for stiffening takes place. What are the fundamental differences?Autoclaved aerated concrete and non-autoclave materials are fundamentally different in a number of parameters, ranging from composition to physical, technical and operational characteristics. And to be more precise, autoclaved aerated concrete exceeds them in all respects. The main advantage of aerated concrete blocks is the simplicity and convenience of their processing. They easily drill and saw. Nails can be hammered with ease. The only material it is not inferior to in terms of convenience is wood. The basis of the blocks is mineral raw materials, that is why they belong to the category of non-combustible materials, they impede the spread of fire, are resistant to the development of mould and microorganisms, and they do not rot either. The cost of building buildings from aerated concrete blocks is less than that of stone or ceramic bricks. This is facilitated by lower prices of gas blocks, their ease (the possibility to reduce costs when laying the foundation). Due to good thermal insulation properties, when using aerated concrete products, the cost of additional insulation is reduced, the cost of heating is saved, and a favourable atmosphere is created in the room. In the winter, heat remains, and in the summer the house does not overheat. Durability, soundproofed, environmental friendliness - all these properties are aerated concrete or ceramic blocks. With proper installation of the building, the period of its operation can be 75-100 years. It also has vapour permeability, allows creating a microclimate in a room, in which excessive dryness or humidity is not observed. Autoclaved aerated concrete is manufactured only in large-scale production and is delivered to the construction site in the form of finished blocks. The production of autoclaved aerated concrete in artisanal conditions is impossible since it is necessary to control several tens of processes and parameters at the same time. Modern autoclaved aerated concrete plants have a high degree of automation (about 95%) and practically exclude the influence of the human factor on the production process. Non-autoclave materials also lose significantly to autoclaved aerated concrete based on physical properties and strength at the same density. For example, at a density of D600, they have a compressive strength of half that of autoclaved aerated concrete! In addition, manufacturers of non-autoclave materials simply cannot produce building blocks with a density below D600, because these blocks do not have strength at all, and they cannot be used in construction. Construction of houses from non-autoclave materials is cheaper only at first glance. If we take into account the poor geometry of non-autoclave materials, the worst indicators of thermal insulation and strength in comparison with autoclaved aerated concrete, the need for a higher consumption of masonry and levelling materials, the benefit of building from non-autoclave materials is disappearing.
